Barbara Hulanicki, born in Poland, but raised in England, is a fashion designer, best known for being the founder of clothes store Biba. She was awarded the OBE in 2012 for Services to Fashion. She has, however, also built up a reputation as a designer of wallpaper patterns, and her creations are very much in demand. Barbara Hulanicki wallpaper can be fun, it can be quirky, or it can be the height of sophistication – some say she often manages to incorporate all three in one design – but one thing is certain, you will always be able to recognise her distinctive style. Many of her designs have a classic Art Deco feel about them, or sometimes echoes of the Gothic style, and her darker wallpapers have a special appeal to younger people. Her creations are always beautifully illustrated and she has an artistic flair that is unmistakable.
