The British company Ian Mankin, which specialises in weaving designer fabrics for furniture, was established in 1983 and is recognised for its innovative and fashionable reinterpretations of organic and natural materials in a limited but classic colour palette. Ian Mankin has established itself as the go-to source for natural British woven fabrics and furnishings, receiving praise from designers, the trade press, and customers alike for our commitment to the production of fabrics of the greatest quality. The collection consists of our recognisable stripes, checks, and plains, and is complemented by additional fabric, wallpaper, and accessory collections.
Ian Mankin was raised in a textile environment and first founded a business that produced luxury leather products including apparel and bags. He created the outfits worn by the Beatles, who are depicted on the "Revolver" album cover, Michael Caine, and US President Ronald Reagan. The business then changed course, and in 1983 Ian founded his first fabric store on London's Primrose Hill. He established his second store in Wandsworth Bridge Road in 1992. The year 1997 witnessed a boom in sales for Ian's book "Natural Fabrics: Easy & Stylish Soft Furnishing," which was released in the UK, France, and Germany. The first "Mankin by Mail" catalogue was published in the middle of the 1990s, generating significant business and opening up the range to a wider regional market.
