Kelly Hoppen
Kelly Elaine Hoppen MBE is a South African-born British interior designer and owner of Kelly Hoppen Interiors. Since 2013, she has been a 'Dragon' on the BBC Two programme Dragons' Den. The entrepreneur has designed home accessories, furniture, yacht interiors, lighting, fabrics, paints, wallpaper, wall art, candles and scents, as well as a collection for the QVC shopping channel.
She won the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year award in 1996 and has published seven books about design. She has built up a reputation for sophisticated interior designs and these have been replicated in her highly acclaimed wallpaper range which creates a feeling of opulence while at the same time retaining a beautiful simplicity. Her designs bring style to any room and provide a comforting and comfortable ambience.
Kelly is renowned for her use of a neutral palette, using such colours as beige, and making then appealingly attractive. She has, in fact, joked that her MBE stands for 'makes beige exciting'. Texture is also as very important part of her wallpaper designs, which includes the use of traditional flock, given a modern twist to produce the balance and harmony which is so characteristic of her work.
