Holden Décor Wallpaper

Holden Décor designs and develops its wallpapers in Darwen, Lancashire, an area with a long connection to British wallpaper production.

The company combines traditional wallpaper design with more contemporary influences, particularly current colour trends, texture and large-scale pattern. Its UK studio creates designs across a wide range of styles rather than concentrating on one particular look.

This makes Holden quite different from heritage brands whose collections are built mainly around archive patterns. The emphasis here is generally more contemporary, with new designs responding quickly to changing interior trends.

Floral and botanical Holden wallpapers

Florals are one of the largest parts of the Holden range.

There are traditional flower patterns, oversized blooms, trailing leaves and much more dramatic tropical designs. Some have a soft, decorative feel, while others use stronger colour and scale to create a feature wall.

Botanical patterns also include palms, jungle foliage, trees and woodland-inspired designs, giving plenty of choice if you want to introduce nature without choosing a conventional floral print.

Designs such as Wonderland Tropical, Vintage Floral and Jungle Paradise illustrate the range particularly well, moving from decorative florals to much bolder tropical imagery.

Animal and nature-inspired designs

Holden is particularly strong in animal wallpaper.

Birds, insects, jungle animals and more playful illustrated subjects appear throughout the collection. Some designs are sophisticated enough for living rooms or dining spaces, while others are clearly intended for children’s bedrooms and playrooms.

This is one of the areas where Holden feels more adventurous than many traditional wallpaper brands. The designs often use strong illustration and unusual subject matter rather than relying simply on repeated motifs.

World of Wallpaper currently lists dozens of Holden designs within its animal, bird and children’s categories, making this one of the most distinctive parts of the collection.

Children’s wallpaper

Holden also has a particularly broad selection of wallpapers designed for children’s rooms.

These include animals, adventure themes, colourful illustrated scenes and more imaginative patterns that work well in bedrooms, nurseries and playrooms.

Some are bright and playful, while others use softer colours or more restrained illustration, which can be useful if you want a design that will still work as a child gets older.

Geometric, textured and industrial styles

If floral or botanical wallpaper is not what you are looking for, Holden also produces plenty of geometric and textured designs.

These range from simple repeated shapes to metallic effects, brick and stone patterns, stripes and more industrial-looking surfaces.

Textured and heavyweight vinyl wallpapers can also be useful in areas where you want something more durable or where a slightly heavier surface helps disguise minor imperfections in the wall.

The range therefore works across quite different interiors, from modern apartments to more traditional houses.

Bold feature walls and quieter designs

Holden is often associated with statement wallpaper, but not every design needs to dominate a room.

The bolder tropical, animal and illustrated patterns are well suited to feature walls, dining areas and spaces where the wallpaper is intended to become part of the room’s character.

By contrast, smaller florals, subtle textures and restrained geometrics can work across several walls without becoming overwhelming.

When choosing between the two, it is worth considering both the scale of the pattern and the amount of uninterrupted wall space available. Large designs often benefit from a wall where the repeat can be seen properly, while smaller patterns tend to work more easily around doors, windows and furniture.

Choosing a Holden Décor wallpaper

With several hundred designs available, narrowing the choice down by style and colour is usually the easiest place to start.

If you want something decorative but relatively easy to live with, look at the florals, foliage and textured ranges. For a stronger statement, tropical, animal and illustrated designs offer much more impact.

It is also worth comparing different colourways of the same pattern. Holden frequently produces designs in both neutral and stronger palettes, and the character of the wallpaper can change considerably depending on the colour.

As with any wallpaper, ordering a sample before decorating is sensible. Screen colours can vary, and seeing the design alongside your paintwork, furniture and flooring gives a much better indication of how it will work in the finished room.
